Can you put syrian hamsters together




















Regina, I have adopted several hamsters. Check petfinder near your area, and see if that works. What type of breeder do you get them from?

Typically if they know the hamsters breeders, and if they are safe, they should be able to answer basic questions. I was told they dont live much longer than that. I also got him at petsmart and have never been able to pick him up without him going crazy.

Ive tried all the tricks. I would like to find a place who doesn't breed like petsmart.? Any suggestions. Which is unlikely. But I think even those are classed as Syrians - just soddin' great big ones. Syrian hamsters housed together « Prev Next ». I may be getting two hamsters off of craigslist, but I'm scared they will fight. I do obviously have another cage in case they start fighting. But they come together and I wouldn't want to separate them if I didn't need to.

The person I'm getting them from says they don't fight. But last time I got hamsters I got two male Syrian hamsters because they had lived together their whole lives and I was hoping they would get along. But they didn't. And I know that most Syrian hamsters do not get along even if raised together. Has anyone been able to house two together successfully? Is there anything that I can do to help them get along?

They will be in a new cage, so I was thinking of maybe taking the old bedding and putting it into their new cage. Does anyone think that might help? I don't even know if I'm getting them yet, but I want to be prepared just in case. Any suggestion will be useful.

Jaybee 30 May I think most, if not everyone, here will tell you to not house them together. In the wild, Syrians do not live together. Or your rabbit? Again, the answer is no! These little animals are territorial and solitary. So it is natural for them to defend their burrows and food sources against all other animals. This is not a reflection of the way they interact with people who have raised them. But can any two hamsters live together? Happily, the answer to this question is yes!

With care, many dwarf hamsters can get along and share a cage. For example, Dwarf hamsters sharing the same cage need to be the same species. It is also best if your two hamsters know one another and have grown up together — preferably littermates.

Any more than you or I would be happy to share our bedroom with someone we never met before. So who can blame them? The first thing you should know is that the cage should be new to both hamsters. And of course, these should be young hamsters. Also ensure that you have two of everything: food and water bowls, wheels , toys , bedding , etc. So can two hamsters live together?

Do clean the cage thoroughly at least once a week with petsafe disinfectant. Make sure you clean everything your pet touches. Use a litter scoop to make this easier. Do provide them with a suitable wheel or spinning disk so that they can run freely in their enclosure.

They can travel up to 9 miles a night in the wind. You can give hamsters very small amounts of fresh fruit and vegetables, but no more than twice a week.

You want them to have as much space to exercise as possible. Cage: Hamsters need a lot of room. Hamsters need a lot of space to run and play. The bars should be no more than 12mm apart or they may get their heads stuck or escape. Exercise wheel : Hamsters are full of energy and can run up to 9 miles in a day, so a wheel is essential to keep them happy. It is important that many complete cages on the market come with a wheel suitable only for a juvenile hamster — a larger wheel will be needed.

House : Syrian hamsters need a house in their cage so that they can hide away and sleep in peace. The darker the better for these, so look for ones that provide a nice little cave environment for them. Substrate: A good substrate is very important to soak up urine and protect their feet.

Good substrate examples are dust extracted rodent safe wood shavings or Carefresh. This should be at a depth of at least 1.
