If the cushion CAN come off, take it off. Otherwise, just work your brush into the cracks. Let it dry. We decided to just go right over the nailheads with our paint.
This will make the fabric go back to feeling soft!!!! Then do another layer of painting and sanding and another coat of paint and sanding until the color is as deep as you want it! Carol Paulus-Kalis. Can you paint over a floral print — NOT velvet? I have a cordiroid couch…will this work on it as well, since it is very textured? Will it stay soft? Do you expect that this paint will work in the same way as the brand you used? I need that deep grey color! Thank you so much for sharing!! I am wanting to do a three piece fabric lounge not velvet. It seems impossible to buy fabric paint other than small craft tubes here in Queensland Australia, Is there a method I can use to paint the fabric, or am I waisting my time.
Can you tell me why FAB is necessary in this process? Can you give me some advise? I have put chalk paint and water. And used the spray bottle…but I have not tried FAB. Please help!! This is amazing! Dyeing furniture can create a massive difference as it helps a space become welcoming and alive. Transform your old furniture by dyeing it! The way velvet receives light gives it more depth compared to plain-woven materials.
How to dye velvet furniture? Your velvet sofa can have a new look with warm water, sponge, and dye in less than 24 hours. Here are the simple steps of dyeing velvet furniture: Step 1 Cover all non-fabric parts of the furniture with plastic and secure it with masking tape. Can you tell which, from the burn test?
You may be able to tell from the color of the bead, the color of the smoke, and the smell it produced while burning. If your velvet is made of nylon, it will be reasonably easy to dye with acid dyes. You can use Procion MX dyes as acid dyes, if you use white vinegar instead of soda ash, and heat your nylon velvet in the dyebath. This works for silk, too. You could try a test swatch in a glass mason jar, which you can heat in a pot of boiling water without contaminating a good pot; mix a little MX dye with 1 tablespoon of vinegar and 1.
If your velvet is made of polyester, it cannot be dyed with any ordinary type of dye.
